Yesterday was one of those days when absolutely nothing went the way it needed to go. I painted the cabinets the wrong color, found out my oldest child has yet to show up for Seminary and then got to listen to him try and tell me why he shouldn't be grounded because "seminary doesn't count." and the oven wasn't cooking evenly so my zucchini bread was a little undone in the center. Not that the family didn't eat it, but it frustrated me.
Today I have a super busy day scheduled and yet, it's going more smoothly.
Go figure.
Go figure.
Every fall I those urges to put food away and add to my storage grows stronger. I did peach jam this summer, and we didn't plant a garden this year, so I don't really have much in terms of fresh stuff to store.
I decided to go back to my old way of adding to the year supply and that is to just add 10 dollars a week to food storage.
Today I picked up this:
We have 9 people in our family and having enough food put away for us all is daunting. I have a pretty solid 3 month supply down and we could survive probably for a few more months if we were careful and ate things like power bars. It dawned on me this morning that in 10 years, the number of people a year supply needs to cover will be down to two, really.
This is our last season of raising our kids and the season of them leaving the nest has begun.
I'm both excited and freaked out.
What do families do with the year supply as the kids leave the nest? Do you just make yourself eat the surplus? Do you give it to the kids? It's weird to realize that before we know it, the time to downsize our food storage will be upon us.
Time is flying by at warp speed now with my kids. When they were little it dragged on forever and people would say "It goes by so fast." In that space of time it was so hard to believe. I've worked hard to add light into every day, to make memories and live in the moment.
It seems those moments come and go before I even get my head around them now.
Matt bought me that negative scanner from my wish list and I've been scanning old pictures of my kids.
It's bringing to light just how much time has passed, and how swiftly the days go by now.
Where are you going, my little one, little one?
Where are you going, my baby, my own?
Turn around and you're two...
Turn around and you're four..
Turn around and you're a young one going out of the door.
Where are you going, my little one, little one?
Where are you going, my baby, my own?
Turn around and you're a child....
Turn around and you've grown.....
Turn around and you're a young man with babes of your own...
Not quite yet.
One more season.
Stay little one season longer before you go, sit by the hearth and stay a child just a little longer.
I love you kids so much.
